How edyn works: from first call to carer match
Arranging care for someone you love can feel like a lot to hold all at once. There's the emotional weight of the decision itself, and then a whole new world of terms, choices and unknowns to navigate on top of it. It's completely natural to wonder: where do I even begin, and what actually happens next?
The good news is that you don't have to figure any of it out alone. At Edyn, we've shaped our whole approach around making this feel manageable, guiding you gently from that very first phone call right through to the day your carer arrives. We work with the whole family to find the best outcome for everyone.
Here's exactly how care with Edyn works, step by step.
Step 1: Getting to know you

Everything begins with a conversation. Your journey starts with a care consultation, a relaxed, no-pressure chat with one of our Family Care Advisors, who'll take the time to understand your situation, answer your questions, and help you make sense of what live-in care involves. You can read more about what to expect in our guide to the care consultation.
From there, one of our care managers carries out a no-obligation care assessment. This is where we really get to know the person who'll be receiving care: what they're hoping to achieve, what matters to them day to day, and what good care looks like for them. We'll also make sure the home is a safe and suitable place for care, and put together a digital care plan that captures everyone's goals. (Our guide to the care assessment explains this stage in more detail.)
Step 2: Matching your care team

This is the part families often care about most, and rightly so. A live-in carer becomes part of daily life, so the right match makes all the difference.
When you're ready, we'll send you a tailored list of potential carers. Behind the scenes, we use smart technology to select carers based on their experience, their interests and their location, so the people we suggest are a genuine fit, not just whoever happens to be available. Each carer comes with their own digital CV, so you can see their care experience, their training, a little about who they are, and what they enjoy. It helps you picture the person, not just the professional.
And you can have real confidence in everyone we put forward. Our carers are:
- Trained by us: to Edyn's own high standards
- Insured
- DBS checked
You can read more about finding the right fit in our guide to deciding on the right carer for you.
Step 3: Carer introduction

Here's something that sets us apart. Rather than have a carer simply turn up on day one as a stranger, we arrange introductory calls between you and your potential carer first, so you can get to know each other a little before any care begins.
It's a small thing that makes a big difference. It means that when care starts, it starts on a foundation of familiarity and trust, rather than first-day nerves. We believe finding the right match matters too much to leave to chance.
Step 4: Your carer arrives

Once you've found the right person, we handle the practical details so you don't have to. We'll arrange travel with your carer, who'll arrive having already read your care plan and understood your needs, so they can settle in and get started with confidence.
And you won't be left wondering how it's going. Your Family Care Coordinator will follow up that very same day to check that everything is in order and everyone feels comfortable.
Step 5: We manage your care

Great care isn't a "set it and forget it" arrangement: it grows and adapts over time. That's why your dedicated care team stays closely involved, managing the progression of your care and keeping everyone aligned.
They'll liaise with your carers and your family alike, making sure all the right people are talking to one another and pulling in the same direction. As needs change, your care changes with them smoothly, and without you having to chase or coordinate it yourself.
Step 6: Your smart care

Finally, we keep everyone informed and connected through my edyn, a simple online portal that brings all your care information into one place.
From reading the care plan and catching up on your carer's notes to updating payment details, it's all there whenever you need it. For families who can't always be in the same room, or indeed the same city, it's a wonderfully reassuring way to stay close to a loved one's care and feel part of it. And then? You can relax, knowing everything is in good hands.
The people behind your care
We often say that exceptional care isn't an individual job: it takes a team. Around every client, we build a dedicated Care Team, each member committed to a different part of your support:
- A main and respite carer: providing the day-to-day, hands-on support in your home.
- A Family Care Coordinator: making sure you have the best carers matched to you, and keeping that support consistent day in, day out.
- A Family Care Manager: ensuring the care we provide stays aligned with your goals and adapts to your changing needs.
Why consistency matters so much
One of the things we're proudest of is how we protect consistency, because familiar faces and steady routines are at the heart of really good care.
For every client, we allocate two carers: a primary carer and a respite carer, who work in tandem to give you and your family the reliability you deserve. Sometimes, a client is assigned more than one respite carer: it also means care never depends on a single person being available without a break.
Because our carers, wonderful as they are, are human too. As well as taking around two hours of breaks at suitable points in the day, your primary live-in carer needs proper time off to rest and recharge, which is exactly where their respite carer steps in. The result is care that's both deeply personal and dependable, without anyone burning out.
